With rising energy costs globally and stricter regulations in many countries, the efficiency rating of electric motors has become a critical purchasing factor. India manufactures IE2 and IE3 class motors that meet international efficiency standards and are competitively priced.

International Efficiency (IE) Standards Explained

The IEC 60034-30-1 standard defines four efficiency classes:

  • IE1 β€” Standard Efficiency: Now banned in EU and many markets for motors above 0.75 kW
  • IE2 β€” High Efficiency: The current minimum standard in most countries. Reduces energy consumption by 3–5% vs IE1.
  • IE3 β€” Premium Efficiency: Required in the EU since 2015 for 7.5–375 kW motors. Reduces consumption by 6–10% vs IE1.
  • IE4 β€” Super Premium: Available for specific applications; typically permanent magnet motors.

Which Standard Do You Need?

Destination Market Minimum Required Recommended
European Union IE3 (above 0.75 kW) IE3
USA / Canada NEMA Premium (β‰ˆIE3) NEMA Premium
Australia IE3 (above 0.75 kW) IE3
India domestic IE2 (above 0.37 kW) IE3
Africa, SE Asia, ME IE2 generally accepted IE2 or IE3

TEFC vs TENV Enclosures

Most Indian-exported motors use TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled) enclosures β€” IP55 rated, suitable for dusty and humid industrial environments. TENV (non-ventilated) motors are available for clean-room and food-industry applications.

Available Range from Oceanhearrt

We export AC induction motors from 0.5 HP to 200 HP, in IE2 and IE3 efficiency classes, in both foot-mounted (B3) and flange-mounted (B5) configurations. Single-phase motors for domestic/small commercial use are available from 0.5 to 3 HP.
